No. 11 Mater Dei Defends Home Court

FAB 50 No. 11 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) remains unbeaten vs. California foes with a 47-34 over No. 15 Fairfax (Los Angeles) at the Nike Extravaganza. Second half defensive effort and clutch shooting of La’Vette Parker keys victory for Monarchs.


No. 23 Fairfax Gets Big Home Win

Grassroots Hoop FAB 50 No. 23 Fairfax (Los Angeles) records statement victory over No. 7 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) in the marquee game of its own Fairfax State Preview one-day showcase. The Lions are now 23-0 as they eye CIF L.A. City and state open division titles. 


Maxpreps HC Semis Set

Three of the four teams in the semifinals of the Maxprep Holiday Classic Open Division bracket hail from California, with the fourth entrant emerging from the South — Pebblebrook (Ga.). The Georgia club will face four-time defending  California state champion Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) with Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) facing Etiwanda (Calif.) in the other semi.

Gary McKnight Wins No. 1,000

With its 67-44 victory over Corona del Mar (Calif.) Friday night, veteran coach Gary McKnight of FAB 50 No. 17 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) became the 14th reported coach nationwide to win 1,000 career games. We have some reaction from McKnight and a quick historical look at McKnight’s accomplishment.

Stanley Johnson Stays The Course

No. 3 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) gutted out a double overtime victory over No. 43 Etiwanda (Etiwanda, Calif.) in a CIF SoCal Open Division Regional semifinal thriller on Tuesday night. It kept alive an unbeaten season for the Monarchs and senior forward Stanley Johnson wouldn’t have it any other way.
