FAB 50 Quick Updates

The Grassroots Hoops FAB 50 release was completed on Tuesday evening, and already there is some player movement with ranked teams. No. 3 Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) adds talented 2017 prospect. No. 43 Chino Hills (Calif.) will add talented transfer after 30-day sit out period.

After a sub-par season by its own lofty standards, Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) is looking to win its second FAB 50 national title. Its title hopes just got a bit better on Tuesday.

Just around the same time the Pilots were announced as the No. 3 team in the Grassroots Hoops FAB 50, it was reported P.J. Washington, a talented 2017 power forward from Frisco, Texas, would transfer to Findlay Prep for his sophomore season. Recently, Washington was the MOP of the Top 30 game at the Pangos All-South Frosh/Soph camp. He was also a standout at the USA Basketball Mini Camp in early October. Last season, Washington earned freshman All-American honors from Grassroots Hoops while at Prime Prep (Dallas).

One of Washington’s best freshman season games, ironically, came against Findlay Prep at the 2013 Tarkanian Classic.

One of the reasons Chino Hills (Chino Hills, Calif.) was ranked lower than Redondo Union (Redondo Beach, Calif.) in the preseason FAB 50 was the Huskies lack of an interior presence. Chino Hills is No. 43 in the FAB 50 to begin the season, with Redondo Union checking in at No. 40.

It seems the Huskies have solved some of those interior problems with the addition of 6-foot-7 Shane Hopkins, a junior who played last season at Ayala (Chino Hills, Calif.). Hopkins played well in recent fall league games for Chino Hills, but he will have to sit out the CIF Southern Section mandated 3o-day transfer period. That means he won’t be able to play for the nation’s No. 43 ranked team until after the big holiday tournaments it will compete in. Hopkins, however, figures to be a big factor once league and the CIFSS playoffs roll around.
